That’s Absurd

by | Jan 12, 2005

Absurdism is a philosophy which holds that human existence is meaningless and irrational and that any attempt to understand the universe will ultimately fail. Absurdists believe that material possessions have no value and that the only thing of value is man. This philosophy was made popular by Albert Camus with such novels as The Stranger and The Fall. Philosopher Soren Kierkegaard also wrote absurdist plays and novels. Absurdism is usually seen in works of drama but absurdist ideas are also seen in comedies like Pigeon Egg Strategy. Monty Python’s Flying Circus has been called absurdist comedy.
